Festival outfit: tips

Hello everyone!

I’m very excited because today I will be spending the day at the best festival of the world… Tomorrowland! I already got to go there 5 years ago and I really had a blast! For a few years we also tried to buy tickets again, to go the full three days, but we never got hold of them. This year, my best friend (now she definitely is! :D) got hold of two tickets and invited me to join her. I didn’t doubt a second! A million thanks to her!

So here I am, writing this blog one day in advance and thinking about everything I still have to take care of. One of the most important things: my outfit! You might be laughing right now, but your outifit really is one of the most important things when attending a festival. You’ll be spending the entire day in those clothes, so they better be comfortable and not bother you. These are my tips for an awesome festival day without outfit issues whatsoever.

1. Keep it simple

I know that it is extremely tempting to pull everything out of the closet (literally) and go for that super cool and fashionable festival outfit that is super Instagrammable etcetera, but there is nothing wrong with keeping it simple. Tomorrowland is a fairytale-like festival, but that doesn’t mean you have to look like a fairy yourself. Leave that to the dancers and the staff.

2. Keep it comfortable

This is probably my most important tip, keep it comfortable! A dance festival is like a night out, but instead your night out will probably be 2 to 3 times longer than usually. In that case, you just want to feel comfortable. An outfit that looks cool but doesn’t feel right is going to make you feel uncomfortable for most of the day and it will impede you from enjoying your day to the fullest. The best tip I can give you: put on one of your favourite pieces of clothing because those are usually also the ones you feel best in. And, not to forget, make sure you wear the most comfortable shoes you have (and take into account that they will get dirty). Shoes with a thin and flat sole will make your feet hurt in no time. Nikes for the win!

3. Be prepared for everything

Now, this might sound a bit dramatical but I’m just trying to say that you should try to keep everything into account (weather-wise mostly). Big festivals mean a lot of people and a lot of people means a lot of body warmth. It is surprising how hot it can get when there’s thousands of people dancing around on a grass field. So, I usually look at the weather forecast and add about 2-3 degrees to the temperature because that is what you are going to get. However, also keep in mind that it can get cold in the evenings, so be prepared and pack a sweater. As for rainy weather, festivals usually hand out free ponchos once it starts raining heavily, so don’t worry about packing a poncho or rain coat. That’s just more weight on your back and you don’t want that.

4. Take a backpack

I understand that this is a personal choice but I honestly believe that a backpack is the best choice when going to a festival. You don’t want to be dragging around a big bag and the small bags don’t allow you to take a sweater. So a backpack it is! The extra benefit of a backpack is that it’s better for your back. I always get terrible back pains when I walk around with a purse all day. A backpack divides the weight over both your shoulders and is much more comfortable. Extra tip: try to take a backpack with cords which you can tie up. That way, no one can get into your backpack without having to untie the cords.

I guess that’s all I wanted to share with you guys. If you have any other tips, please let me know!

My favourite summer drink

Hi everyone!

I’ve just returned from a job interview and I have another one coming up tomorrow, so I figured I needed an afternoon of preparations and relaxation. What better way to prepare for a job interview than to take your laptop outside and enjoy a delicious drink in the meantime!

That actually reminded me of my favourite summer drink (and well favourite drink any moment of the year actually). I love cherry beer! Belgium is very well-known for being a beer(-drinking) country and that also means we have a wide (very wide) range of beers. Although I can also enjoy a normal beer from time to time, I absolutely prefer cherry beer (or ‘Kriek’ as we know it in Dutch). It is sweet and really just perfect for summer thanks to its fruity flavour.

I know many people will not agree with me, but my absolute favourite is Kriek by Mort Subite. As far as I know, it is disliked by people because of its taste and for not being sweet enough, but that is actually what I like about it. Some cherry beers are extremely sweet and make you feel like you’ve eaten 10 lolly’s at a time. Not my cup of tea!

Mort Subite is the one for me! And check out their label! They renewed it two years ago and I think it looks great. Before, the labels were pretty boring, but now you get this vintage, retro vibe when looking at the bottle. Bottoms up!

What is your favourite summer drink?

Camel x Red

Hi everyone!

Some exciting things are coming up next week, but for now I have another outfit post. Today I decided to wear my suede skirt, which I usually only wear in winter (with panty’s), but I figured I could perfectly wear it in summer as well. The fabric is too thick for heat waves and 30+°, but for now it is actually just right!

I wanted to combine my camel skirt with red because I just love that colour combo! I picked my white-with-red-letters VOGUE T-shirt, my red All Stars and my favourite red bag. I topped it off with my daily jewelry and I honestly really like this look. I think it looks both effortless and stylish. And I realised that my hair even complements the outfit. Three times hooray!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend (or summer holiday)!

Lunch @ BAR tre with BONGO

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all doing well and are enjoying your summer holiday! I sure am! Last week, my boyfriend and went out to lunch in my hometown Hasselt. For Christmas, my parents had gifted us a BONGO to go to lunch somewhere we liked. Since we finally had some time off I started leafing through all of the options and I soon discovered that we could go to a restaurant in Hasselt that I hadn’t been to yet. I had, however, heard many good things about the place so I didn’t doubt any further and booked us a table.

We went to BAR tre, a modern Italian restaurant right in the city centre. With our BONGO we got a main course and dessert and I really enjoyed it. Our main course was a trio of pasta: macaroni with fresh broccoli, farfalle with sweet tomatoes and finally rigatoni with mushrooms and ham. YUM! For dessert I was silently hoping for Tiramisu. Even though I’ve already had tiramisu for a thousand times, I love it! Ergo, I could probably eat it every day, definitely when prepared by Italians themselves. And we got… TIRAMISU!

Now that we’ve been there for lunch ourselves, I can agree that this is a good place for Italian food. Next time I’m feeling like having Italian, that’s the place I’m going to! If you’ve gotten all curious now, check out the photos below and be ready to get hungry! 😀

Royal blue heels

Hi everyone!

Last week I already wrote a blog about the timeless blouses that I bought in sales and I told you that more was coming up, so here I am! This time I would like to show you the beautiful pair of heels that I found. Shoes are still a girl’s best friend!

So, I actually already saw these heels on the first day of sales, in the morning. I had seen them before but I always told myself I didn’t need them, which was true. This time, however, they were 50% off so I decided to try them on. Those are the moments that I silently hope they’ll just be ugly. Money saved! Unfortunately for my wallet that is seldomly the case. They were gorgeous!

Still, I was able to tell myself (once again) that I didn’t need them and I left the store empty-handed. As you guys already know, my first day of sales wasn’t a great succes and I barely bought anything, so in the evening I decided to go back to the shoe store the next morning and get me those beautiful heels. If I were only to buy shoes when I needed them, well…

So, here they are! Although they also had them in black, I went for the royal blue. I already have some pairs of black heels, but this royal blue was still missing in my wardrobe. Do you like ‘m as much as I do?

Homemade quiche

Hello foodies!

A while ago I had quiche for lunch at a place in Brussels and realizing how much I actually like quiche, I decided to look up the recipe and try it out myself some time. Two weeks ago, I tried it for the first time and I have to say it worked out pretty well. I made one with bacon and fresh spinach. This week I was craving for quiche again so I just made another one, this time with bacon and leek. Yummy!

Are you interested in making a homemade quiche yourself? Well, here’s the recipe! It’s super easy!

Ingredients (2-3p)

  • puff pastry
  • 250g bacon slices
  • 2 leeks
  • 4 eggs
  • 200cl cream
  • 100g emmental cheese
  • salt
  • pepper

Recipe

  1. Preheat the oven at 180° celcius.
  2. Wash the leeks thoroughly and then slice them into chips.
  3. Steam the leek for 2-3 minutes and then let them drip completely in a sieve.
  4. Bake the bacon slices and let them drip on a piece of kitchen paper.
  5. Mix the eggs with the cream and add some salt and pepper.
  6. Put the puff pastry in a round baking mould and use a fork to pick the bottom.
  7. Put the leek and bacon on the pastry.
  8. Add the egg-cream blend and top it off with some emmental cheese.
  9. Now put your quiche in the oven for about 35-40 minutes.

Et voilà! Enjoy!

Shopping timeless pieces during sales

Hi everyone!

I told you guys last week that I was going shopping on the first day of summer sales and today I would like to show you my first conquest. I have to say that the day wasn’t as successful as usually, but I honestly didn’t really mind. I’d rather buy pieces that I really like than just take everything with me because it’s on sale.

So, even though I often ignore this advice completely: it is smart to search for timeless (quality) pieces during sales. Now, I might not have followed that advice entirely but I did buy two timeless blouses in soft colours and I am sure that I will still be wearing those in 10 years.

They are clean cut, nothing really special, with a boat neck and a regular fit. The fabric is extremely soft and because I couldn’t decide, I bought it in two colours: off-white and soft pink (yes, the obsession remains). I am very excited about these blouses and honestly I am kind of hoping for lower temperatures (just for a few days) so I can wear them! 😀

Anyway, that’s as far as my first sales purchase is considered. For the next week(s) I have some fun things planned and I will reveal one of my other sales purchases that I am very happy with. So, stay in touch!

Love for the midi dress

Hi everyone!

I’m a bit late today because I went out yesterday and I have a pretty big hangover right now. Always reminds me of how much I hate that feeling. But anyway, I wanted to show you guys my outfit of yesterday night.

When going out I always try to assemble an outfit that is comfortable. That is one of my main criteria for going out because I want to feel good and I don’t want to have to worry about my pants being a bit too tight or my shoes hurting after a few hours of dancing. I immediately went for my new midi dress that I scored in sales last weekend. This dress is super comfortable but at the same time it also makes me look good and that is of course another important aspect when going out!

I combined this dress with my favourite red purse, which is easy for a night out thanks to the long strap, and my red All Stars. I actually wanted to wear my Stan Smiths but for going out I decided to put on my All Stars. They are old and therefore I don’t really mind if they get dirty and even better, you can put them in the washing machine. Win win!

I am, by the way, totally in love with midi dresses! It started last summer when I bought my first one and right now I have four of them. 😀 Two summer pieces, one winter piece and another one that is somewhere in between. The big plus about these dresses is that they are amazingly comfortable but at the same time also sexy and feminine. I honestly don’t know what is not to like!

Striped denim

Hi everyone!

Today is one of the best days of the year because summer sales start today (at least in Belgium). I always love to go shopping during sales, even if it usually extremely crowded. Luckily today is going to be a dreary, rainy day so I hope many people will stay at home. 😀

Before I will be able to show you all of my new sales purchases, I would like to share one of the outfits I wore this week. It wasn’t cold, but with a clouded sky I didn’t really feel like going all summery. I pulled my striped denim pants out of my closet and searched for other pieces that would still give me (at least) a spring feeling.

These pants were very on trend a few years ago, but I still like to wear them. They can, however, get a very alternative, goth look if combined wrong so take a look at how I styled them. To avoid getting that goth look (If you like a goth look, go ahead! Just not really my thing.) I always try to avoid combining these pants with black pieces. I usually pick a light grey T-shirt or sweater or some pastels to keep that overall light coloured vibe.

This time I decided to go for my light grey T-shirt with a rose gold ‘simplicity’ detail (matches my watch perfectly). Then I put on my still dearly beloved Stan Smiths and I added my dark grey/black backpack. I felt like this outfit could use something different than a regular bag, so I went for Vladimir (the backpack).

How do you like it?

X Liesl

Ps: Enjoy the first day of sales!
